Buddhism



Buddhism is nothing but practicing spiritual development leading to Insight into the true nature of reality. Buddhism is a means of changing ourselves in order to develop the qualities of awareness, kindness, and wisdom. It does not include the idea of worshipping a creator god. Buddhism addresses people irrespective of race, nationality, caste, sexuality, or gender.



History of Buddhism:

            Buddhism was founded by Gauthama Buddha, who was a king. Gauthama Buddha’s original name was Siddhartha and his parents are King Suddhodhana and Mahamaya. Mahamaya died for seven days after the birth of Siddhartha.  Later he grown up by his mother’s sister Mahaprajapati.

A well known sooth-sayer says that Siddhartha may be a great emperor or great sage. Listening to these words king Sudhodhana wants his son to be a great emperor. So he kept Siddhartha in a palace where he is surrounded with only joy and happiness. He grown up as a handsome young and dynamic. Till now he don’t know any single problem.

One day while he was roaming in his palace from the window he saw an old couple who are begging for the food, he saw an ill person who was in bed in a very pitiful state. Finally he saw a funeral ceremony of a person.

Seeing all these he came to know the originality of life. Every person has to face all the stages in the life. He wants to search a new meaning for life.

One fine day he left his wife and son Rahul, went away from the palace. He went to Bodh GAYA sat under a tree in deep concentration for many days, where Siddhartha changed to Gauthama Budha and gained knowledge about life under the Bodhi tree, which made him to found Budddhism.

4.      Theravada Buddhism is the oldest of the surviving schools of Buddhism. It represents an option and it maintains many of the practices and beliefs of the early followers of the Buddha. 
5.      Mahayana Buddhism is a reform movement that changes the content of Buddhist practice in profound ways.
6.      Theravada and Mahayana accept the Tripitakas as their scriptures.
